The Zeekr 7X has received more than 58,000 orders in the past 20 days since pre-sales began on August 30.
Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) has officially launched the Zeekr 7X electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), its second model for the mainstream EV market, to target family users.
The EV maker rolled out the Zeekr 7X at a launch event in Shanghai today, making it another Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y competitor.
The five-seat SUV has a starting price of RMB 229,900 ($32,590), which is RMB 9,100 lower than the pre-sale price of RMB 239,000, and lower than the Model Y's RMB 249,900 starting price in China.
Since pre-sales began on August 30, the Zeekr 7X has received more than 58,000 orders in the past 20 days, Zeekr said at today's event.
Deliveries of the Zeekr 7X will begin in China at the end of September, followed by a global market launch within a year, Zeekr said.
The model is offered in three variants in China with starting prices of RMB 229,900, RMB 249,900, and RMB 269,900, with the highest-priced one powered by dual motors and the other two by a single motor.
The Zeekr 7X is Zeekr's second targeting the mainstream EV market. The Zeekr 007 electric sedan, which went on sale on December 27, 2023, is its first targeting the mainstream EV market.
Zeekr's other models include the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009, and Zeekr X, all of which target niche markets.
The Zeekr 7X is based on Geely's SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) and measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,656/1,666 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm.
The model breaks away from the traditional design that emphasizes a long wheelbase at the expense of cabin space by striking a balance between a sleek, sporty exterior and a spacious interior, according to Zeekr.
The Zeekr 7X is built entirely on the 800 V high-voltage platform, which delivers greater energy efficiency than conventional 400 V platform models.
The model is available with two battery options to meet different driving needs: a 75-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a CLTC range of 605 kilometers, and a longer-range version with a-100 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) ternary battery pack that extends the CLTC range to 780 kilometers.
The LFP battery, developed by Zeekr engineers, has the world's fastest charging capability, charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 10.5 minutes, the EV maker said.
The Zeekr 7X's single-motor variant has a peak motor power of 310 kW and a peak torque of 440 Nm, which enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.7 or 5.8 seconds.
The dual-motor variant has a peak motor power of 475 kW and peak torque of 710 Nm, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
Zeekr continues to make safety one of its selling points, stating that the Zeekr 7X introduces an industry-first feature that allows users to quickly and easily break the windows of the vehicle by simply pressing a hidden button in case of an emergency.
The model is also the world's first child smart seat with active airbags, providing maximum protection for child safety, Zeekr said.
As a family-oriented SUV, the Zeekr 7X is expected to expand Zeekr's potential user base, which could help it achieve its goal of delivering 230,000 vehicles for this year.
The company delivered 18,015 vehicles in August, up 46.43 percent year-on-year and 15.08 percent from July.
In the January-August period, Zeekr delivered 121,540 vehicles, up 81.47 percent year-on-year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
