CATL has launched the CATL Tectrans Bus Edition, claiming an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, the highest in the electric bus industry.
CATL has launched new power batteries with an extra-long lifespan for electric buses, the latest offering from its commercial vehicle battery brand Tectrans, or Tianxing.
The Chinese power battery giant released the CATL Tectrans Bus Edition at a launch event yesterday, saying it was a tailor-made solution for the electric bus industry.
The battery has a service life of up to 15 years or 1.5 million kilometers and a warranty of 10 years or 1 million kilometers, CATL said.
The CATL Tectrans Bus Edition has an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, the highest in the electric bus industry, according to the company.
The solution has an IP69 rating and can withstand 72 hours of water immersion.
The battery will soon be in mass production, CATL said, adding that it has entered into partnerships with 13 vehicle companies, including Yutong Bus, Golden Dragon, and Dongfeng Motor.
The CATL Tectrans Bus Edition is being put to use in 80 models, the battery maker said.
CATL is the world's largest power battery maker, with a 37.6 percent global share in January-July, according to South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
In China, CATL's share was 46.2 percent in January-August, according to China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
After dominating the passenger car battery market, the battery maker has increased its efforts in the commercial vehicle battery market.
In July, CATL unveiled its commercial vehicle battery brand, Tectrans, and two L-series commercial vehicle batteries for the logistics and distribution industry.
The two batteries include a version that supports supercharging that can be charged to 60 percent in as little as 12 minutes, as well as a long-range version.
