The Denza Z9 is available in hybrid and BEV variants, both with tri-motors. The other model in the Z series, the Z9GT, will hit the market on September 20.
BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium brand Denza is filing for the Z9 sedan, which is expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) today released its latest catalog of models that will soon be allowed to be sold for public comment, and the Denza Z9 is included.
The public can submit their feedback between September 14 and 23. Entry into the catalog is the last major regulatory process by which a model can be allowed to be sold in China.
The Denza Z9 has two pages in the filing, including a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version and a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version.
The Denza Z9 BEV has the model number QCJ7000AEBEV3 and is manufactured at a factory in Shenzhen, the city where BYD is headquartered.
It measures 5,220 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and 1,500/1,518 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
The BEV variant weighs 2,895 kilograms and supports a top speed of 240 kilometers per hour.
It is powered by three electric motors with peak power of 230 kW, 240 kW and 240 kW respectively.
The hybrid variant of the Denza Z9 has the product model number QCJ7200AEHEV2 and is also manufactured at BYD's Shenzhen plant.
The length, width and height of the variant are 5,235 mm, 1,990 mm, 1,500/1,518 mm and the wheelbase is 3,125 mm.
It weighs 2,780 kilograms and supports a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour.
The hybrid variant is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,995 ml and a peak power of 152 kW.
It also has three motors, including a front motor and two rear motors with peak power of 200 kW, 220 kW, and 220 kW respectively.
Denza began pre-sales of the Z9GT, another model in the Z lineup, on August 20, with a pre-sale price range of RMB 339,800 ($47,890) to RMB 419,800, well below the previously rumored range of around RMB 500,000 or so.
The Z9GT is the first model in Denza's Z series, which will be sedans, with GT standing for Grand Tourer.
The Z9GT's biggest selling point is BYD's e3 technology, which is based on the Xuanji architecture and brings tri-motor independent drive with dual-motor independent steering at the rear wheels.
Denza gave the model's regular sedan version, the Z9, a brief appearance at its August 20 launch and started pre-sales at the same prices.
The Z9GT will officially go on sale and begin deliveries in September, while the Z9 will go on sale and begin deliveries in the fourth quarter, Denza said at the time.
On September 11, Denza announced that it would officially launch the Z9GT on September 20.
