Originally launched in July 2020, the BYD Han has accumulated sales of more than 800,000 units to date.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has begun warming up the 2025 Han sedan, rather than launching the model today as one media outlet reported 2 days ago.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker shared several images of the 2025 Han on Weibo today, saying they were from the scene of the model's high-temperature testing in Turpan, Xinjiang.
The 2025 Han will feature BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, which will bring fuel consumption for mid-to-large-sized cars into the “3 era,” BYD said, suggesting that the model will consume less than 4 L of fuel per 100 kilometers.
The model will also feature the DiPilot 300 advanced intelligent driving system, BYD said. These images show that some versions of the updated Han will come with LiDAR.
Separately, BYD's head of sales for the Dynasty lineup, Lu Tian, said on Weibo that the 2025 Han will officially go on sale on September 9.
To date, the Han family of models has sold a total of 800,000 units, four years after its launch, Lu said.
The model's average sales price exceeds RMB 200,000 yuan ($28,240), according to Lu.
Originally launched in July 2020, the Han is BYD's flagship sedan, which has received several major updates over the past four years.
The sedan's last update came on February 28 this year, when BYD introduced the Han Glory Edition with a starting price of RMB 169,800, RMB 20,000 lower than its predecessor.
The 2025 Han entered a model catalog published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July, indicating that it will be available in plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions.
The model measures 1,910 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, and its BEV version measures 4,995 mm in length, while the PHEV version is available in 4,995 mm and 4,975 mm length options.
The updated Han DM-i is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and a peak power of 115 kW, while its BEV variant is powered by an electric motor with a peak power of 168 kW.
Its hybrid version comes with two different battery packs with capacities of 12.960 kWh, 18.316 kWh , and the offered battery range is 70 km and 102 km respectively, according to the filing.
The Han BEV comes with a battery pack with a capacity of 72 kWh and a CLTC range of 605 km.
The Han family sold 17,029 vehicles in August, down 25.18 percent year-on-year and down 5.67 percent from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January through August, the Han family sold 139,252 vehicles, down 3.32 percent year-on-year, and contributed 5.98 percent of BYD's NEV sales for the same period.
