The Sealion 05 DM-i is an SUV (sport utility vehicle), which is usually more popular with Chinese consumers than sedan models due to its larger interior space.

BYD didn't mention anything more about the model, and the DM-i means it will be a hybrid.

The BYD brand's product array includes the Dynasty series and the Ocean series, with the Sealion 05 DM-i belonging to the latter.

The model has already entered a catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in July, setting the stage for its launch.

The model that made it into the catalog is the Sealion 05, which comes in two versions, both of which are hybrids, and both of which are manufactured at BYD's production facility in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in northwest China.

The five-seat SUV measures 4,710 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,690/1,720 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.

These dimensions are slightly smaller than those of the (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, which has a length, width and height of 4,750 mm, 1,921 mm, 1,624 mm and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

The model is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1,498 ml and 74 kW. Both its versions are powered by a single motor with a peak power of 120 kW.

The Sealion 05 will be the second model in the Sealion range after the Sealion 07 EV.

BYD launched the Sealion 07 EV on May 10. The battery electric vehicle (BEV) model, a Tesla Model Y competitor, is the first of its e-Platform 3.0 Evo.

The Sealion 07 EV has a starting price of RMB 189,800 ($26,670), with deliveries beginning in May.

For the past three months, the Sealion 07 EV has been selling around 7,000 units per month.
