Xpeng Aeroht is aiming to start mass production and deliveries of its modular flying car in 2026, with a price tag that will be no more than RMB 2 million ($280,000), its founder said.
Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car subsidiary of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), made the real-life debut of its modular flying car, dubbed the Land Aircraft Carrier, and announced mass production plans and pricing information.
Xpeng Aeroht aims to begin mass production and deliveries of its modular flying car in 2026, and the price will be no more than RMB 2 million yuan ($280,000), its founder and president, Zhao Deli, said during an event that was broadcast online today.
The company plans to complete the modular flying car's first public manned flight at the Zhuhai airshow this November and will showcase it at the Guangzhou auto show in November.
Xpeng Aeroht will begin pre-sales of the product in late 2024, with mass production and deliveries in 2026, Zhao said.
The newly announced production timeline has been delayed from the previous one. On January 10, Xpeng Aeroht said it would open pre-orders for its modular flying car in China in the fourth quarter of this year, with mass production and deliveries to take place in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Xpeng Aeroht's factory in Guangzhou is expected to be completed and have its first prototype off the production line by July 31, 2025, according to Zhao.
Construction of the plant will start in late September to early October this year, with a planned annual capacity of more than 10,000 units, he said.
The company aims to deliver more than all eVTOL (Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) manufacturers worldwide combined, Zhao said.
Xpeng Aeroht was founded in 2013 and is now a technology unit majority-owned by Guangzhou-based Xpeng and its chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng.
To date, Xpeng Aeroht has announced a total of five flying cars and carried out nearly 20,000 flight tests.
Xpeng's development path for Aeroht's flying cars will include the eVTOL flying car and the modular flying car, the company said at its October 24, 2023, tech day event.
The modular flying car in its entirety consists of a flying car, and a mother vehicle that can recharge the flying car.
The mother vehicle will have an extended-range powertrain, be 6*6 all-wheel drive, and support rear-wheel steering.
In March, Xpeng Aeroht said it had submitted a type certificate application to the Chinese authorities for the flying car's flying body, product code name X3-F.
