Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) debuted the Zeekr 7X, an SUV (sport utility vehicle) aimed at the mainstream family car market, at the Chengdu auto show, which began today.

The Zeekr 7X will be delivered in China by the end of September, followed by global deliveries within a year, the electric vehicle (EV) maker said.

The model's official launch will be on September 20, with a current pre-sale starting price of RMB 239,000 yuan ($33,680), aiming to take on the (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.

The Chengdu auto show is held annually in Chengdu, Sichuan province in southwest China, and this year it began on August 30 and will run through September 8.

The Zeekr 7X is Zeekr's model internally codenamed CX1e, whose official name was announced on July 10.

The five-seater SUV features the Hidden Energy design language and is an SUV for families.

Based on Geely's SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture), the Zeekr 7X measures 4,825 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,925 mm.

The dimensions are slightly smaller than those of 's (NYSE: NIO) ES6 and 's (NYSE: XPEV) G9, although Zeekr emphasizes that the Zeekr 7X has the largest cabin space in its class.

Thanks to SEA, the SUV has a spacious and comfortable interior with more headroom and legroom than existing midsize SUVs, Zeekr said today.

The Zeekr 7X is equipped with silicon carbide-powered e-motors that enable it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The model is fully based on the 800 V high-voltage platform, which is expected to deliver higher energy efficiency compared to the regular 400 V platform models.

It is available with two battery options, a 75-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a CLTC range of 605 km. A longer-range version with a 100-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack extends the CLTC range to 780 kilometers.

The LFP battery developed by Zeekr engineers has the world's fastest charging capability, charging the vehicle from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 10.5 minutes, the EV maker said.

The Zeekr 7X comes with a sensor suite consisting of dual Nvidia Orin-X SoCs, LiDAR, HD cameras and millimeter-wave radars. Its infotainment system is powered by a Qualcomm 8295 chipset.

The model will be Zeekr's second to target the mainstream EV market, while SUVs are usually more favored among Chinese consumers because of their larger interior space.

The Zeekr 007 electric sedan, which went on sale December 27, 2023, is Zeekr's first model to target the mainstream EV market.

Zeekr's other models currently on sale include the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009, and Zeekr X, all of which target niche markets.

Zeekr delivered 15,655 vehicles in July, up 30.04 percent year-on-year, though down 22.14 percent from June.

In the January-July period, the company delivered 103,525 vehicles. It is targeting a full year delivery volume of 230,000 vehicles this year.

The company's current models are all battery electric vehicles (BEVs), though it will begin offer hybrid models like many of its other local peers to get higher sales.

Zeekr will launch a flagship SUV in the second half of 2025, which will be offered in a variant featuring a new electric-hybrid powertrain technology, its management said in an earnings call earlier this month.
