The production version of the SU7 Ultra, the most capable variant of Xiaomi's SU7, will be launched in the first quarter of 2025, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said.
The production version of the SU7 Ultra, the most powerful variant of Xiaomi's first electric vehicle (EV) model, the SU7, will be launched in the first quarter of 2025, the company's founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun revealed in a live video stream today.
This is a more specific timeframe than the first half of 2025 that he mentioned in another live video stream a month ago.
The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will leave the factory with a beginner's mode, requiring users to go through a step-by-step exam to unlock the vehicle's full performance if they want to unleash it, Lei said today.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra topped out at more than 350 kilometers per hour in tests at the Nurburgring track in Germany, Lei said.
Xiaomi launched the SU7 electric sedan on March 28, offering three variants -- standard, Pro, and Max -- at a starting price of RMB 215,900 ($30,270), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900 respectively.
During his annual presentation on July 19, Lei unveiled the SU7 Ultra prototype, saying it's based on the SU7 and built for performance and the track.
The SU7 Ultra prototype is powered by Xiaomi's V8s motor, which reaches 27,200 rpm and delivers 1,548 horsepower.
The model can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds and can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.96 with a top speed of over 350 km/h.
Lei said in a live video stream on July 23 that the production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will feature the same chassis structure, three motors and battery pack as the prototype.
The production version of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra would be slightly expensive, but not particularly so, Lei said at the time.
In the second quarter, 27,307 units of the Xiaomi SU7 series were delivered, the smartphone giant said yesterday in its second quarter financial report.
In the second quarter, Xiaomi's total revenue from innovative businesses, including smart EVs, amounted to RMB 6.4 billion, of which RMB 6.2 billion was from EVs and RMB 200 million from other related businesses.
During the quarter, the gross margin of the innovative business, including smart EVs, was 15.4 percent, Xiaomi said.
