FAW-Volkswagen, a Volkswagen joint venture in China, is recalling the Audi e-tron GT electric sports car in China due to a braking system concern.

FAW-Volkswagen is recalling a total of 283 imported Audi e-tron GT series vehicles manufactured between July 26, 2022 and November 23, 2023, according to an announcement on China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website today.

The recall will be implemented from August 31, 2024, according to the announcement.

Due to design reasons, the front brake hose on some of the vehicles included in the recall may crack, resulting in brake fluid leakage.

This may cause a decrease in braking effectiveness, longer braking distance, and increase the risk of a vehicle crash, according to the announcement.

FAW-Volkswagen will commission authorized Audi dealers to replace the front axle brake hoses with optimized ones free of charge for the recalled vehicles to eliminate the potential safety hazard.

The Audi e-tron GT went on sale in China in July 2023 and currently has a starting price of RMB 999,800 ($139,380).

This is the second recall of Audi's electric vehicles (EVs) in China in the past roughly two months.

A June 14 announcement revealed that FAW-Volkswagen was recalling a total of 251 vehicles with production dates between July 26, 2022 and June 28, 2023, including some imported Audi e-tron GTs as well as locally produced RS e-tron GT EVs.

For some of the vehicles within the recall, a short circuit may occur within the high-voltage power battery module, which in extreme cases may result in thermal runaway of the battery module, posing a risk of fire, according to the June announcement.

FAW-Volkswagen advised owners at the time to limit the charging power of their cars to 80 percent or less before the recall measures were implemented.
