Compared to gasoline-powered vehicles, the battery swap service has cumulatively saved users more than RMB 20.3 billion ($2.85 billion), Nio said.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) has reached its 50 millionth battery swap, marking a major milestone for its signature service.
The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced Monday that it reached its 50 millionth battery swap service on August 5 at 11:33 pm Beijing time.
The milestone means that Nio's battery swap system has provided users with a cumulative total of 2.62 billion kWh of electricity, enough to power more than 1.31 million households for a year.
More and more Nio users are turning to the battery swap service as their preferred method of replenishing their vehicles, with nearly 60 percent of the power gained by Nio vehicles coming from battery swap stations, the company said.
Cumulatively, the battery swap service has saved users more than 2.85 billion minutes compared to charging at public facilities, Nio said.
The battery swap service has cumulatively saved users more than RMB 20.3 billion yuan ($2.85 billion) compared to comparable gasoline cars, or an average of RMB 36,000 yuan per Nio user, it said.
To date, Nio has 2,464 battery swap stations in China, of which 825 are located along highways.
So far this month, Nio's battery swap stations have provided an average of 79,000 services per day, with an average of one Nio vehicle getting a fully-charged battery from these stations every 1.1 seconds, according to the company.
Nio completed its first battery swap station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018, pushing ahead with the construction of this costly infrastructure amidst the ensuing skepticism that has lasted for years.
It took 29 months to see its battery swap service reach its first one million services, and on July 4, 2022, the service reached the 10 millionth milestone, four years after it first became available.
On April 3, 2023, Nio reached a cumulative total of 20 million battery swaps, just nine months, or 273 days, since the 10 millionth milestone.
On October 9, 2023, Nio reached 30 million cumulative battery swap services provided, just six months after the 20 millionth service.
On March 14 of this year, the company saw the battery swap service reach 40 million.
