Li Auto had 11,800 insurance registrations last week, Xpeng had 2,200, Zeekr had 4,100, Leapmotor had 5,800 and Aito had 9,200.
Major electric vehicle (EV) makers saw mixed insurance registration performance in China last week.
For the week of July 29-August 4, insurance registrations for Nio (NYSE: NIO) vehicles in China were 5,800, up 7.41 percent from 5,400 the week before and the third consecutive week of sequential growth, according to data shared today by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).
Li Auto stopped sharing weekly insurance registration numbers earlier this year, and after doing so for about 1 year. In early May, it resumed sharing those numbers.
Notably, a Nio executive asked Li Auto to stop sharing weekly sales rankings on July 30, saying it would interfere with other companies' operations. Li Auto appears to have ignored the request.
Nio delivered 20,498 vehicles in July, its third consecutive month above the 20,000 mark. That was up 0.18 percent from 20,462 vehicles in the same month last year, although down 3.35 percent from 21,209 in June.
Li Auto had 11,800 insurance registrations last week, down 7.81 percent from 12,800 the week before.
Li Auto delivered a record 51,000 vehicles in July, the second time it has surpassed the 50,000 mark after 50,353 in December of last year.
That's up 49.41 percent from 34,134 vehicles in the same month last year and up 6.75 percent from 47,774 vehicles in June.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 2,200 insurance registrations last week, down 8.33 percent from 2,400 vehicles the week before.
Xpeng delivered 11,145 vehicles in July, up 1.24 percent year-on-year and up 4.47 percent from June.
That was Xpeng's fifth consecutive month-on-month increase in monthly deliveries, but still only about half of the more than 20,000 monthly deliveries in the fourth quarter of last year.
Xpeng gave the first model in the Mona lineup, the M03 sedan, its debut on July 3, saying the official launch would be in August. The company has yet to announce a launch date for the Mona M03.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 12,500 insurance registrations in China last week, down 7.41 percent from 13,500 the week before.
Tesla China sold 74,117 vehicles in July, including those sold in China and those exported from China to overseas markets, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That's up 4.38 percent from 71,007 in June, and up 15.29 percent from 64,285 in the same month last year.
Figures for Tesla's July sales in China and vehicles exported from its Shanghai factory were not yet available.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had a record 80,200 insurance registrations last week, up 13.6 percent from 70,600 the week before.
The company sold a record 342,383 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July, up 30.60 percent from 262,161 in the same month a year ago and up 0.21 percent from 341,658 in June.
BYD will launch the 2025 Seal and the new Seal 07 DM-i on August 8. The former will be the first sedan based on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, while the latter will feature the NEV maker's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology.
Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) saw insurance registrations of 3,800 vehicles last week, continuing to sit near its single-week record high, albeit down 2.56 percent from the previous week's 3,900 units.
Xiaomi EV announced on August 1 that deliveries of its only currently available model, the SU7, exceeded 10,000 units in July, the second time it has surpassed that mark after June.
As it did last month, Xiaomi EV did not release specific figures for the monthly delivery.
Xiaomi EV would continue to deliver more than 10,000 units in August and expects to meet its full-year 100,000-unit delivery target ahead of schedule in November, it said on Weibo.
Xiaomi EV's factory in Beijing, which kicked off double-shift production in June, underwent production line maintenance in July, which was completed at the end of the month.
Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) had insurance registrations of 4,100 vehicles last week, up 24.24 percent from 3,300 vehicles the week before.
Zeekr delivered 15,655 vehicles in July, up 30.04 percent from 12,039 a year earlier, but down 22.14 percent from 20,106 in June, it announced on August 1.
The company's statement did not address the reason for the decline, though a spokesperson told CnEVPost that Zeekr performed equipment maintenance during the hot summer months and revamped its production lines to cope with the capacity demands of several new vehicles.
Zeekr was gearing up to challenge deliveries of 30,000 units a month in the fourth quarter, the spokesman said.
Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) had insurance registrations of 5,800 units last week, up 23.4 percent from 4,700 units the week before.
Leapmotor delivered 22,093 vehicles in July, up 54.12 percent year-on-year and up 9.83 percent from June.
Aito, the brand jointly created by Huawei and Seres Group, saw insurance registrations of 9,200 vehicles last week, down 12.38 percent from 10,500 the week before.
Aito delivered 41,535 vehicles in July, up 881.68 percent year-on-year but down 2.91 percent from June, according to data it released earlier this month.
