GAC Aion's sub-brand Hyper has seen the overseas version of its first electric supercar model, the Hyper SSR, roll off the production line, saying the brand's English name will change to Hyptec.

The overseas version of the Hyper SSR officially rolled off the assembly line on August 1, and the supercar is expected to begin deliveries in Southeast Asia later this month, according to a press release yesterday.

GAC Aion launched the Hyper brand in September 2022 along with the 2-seat Hyper SSR.

The Hyper SSR went on sale in China in October 2023 with a starting price of RMB 1,286,000 ($177,490). The model was delivered to its first Chinese owners on the day of its launch.

The Hyper SSR measures 4,583 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width and 1,238 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

The entry Hyper SSR can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.3 seconds, while the other two more powerful variants can do so in just 1.9 seconds.

Notably, Hyper brand head Gu Huinan said yesterday that the brand will adopt a new English name, Hyptec.

The new name is derived from "Hyper" and "Technology", meaning "Hyper Technology Life", according to Gu.

GAC Aion's sales have been weak this year, after seeing rapid growth over the past two years.

In July, GAC Aion sold 35,238 vehicles, down 21.74 percent year-on-year and essentially flat from 35,027 in June, according to data it released yesterday.

In the January-July period, GAC Aion sold 212,604 vehicles, down 16.42 percent year-on-year.
