Geely Auto and Zeekr signed an agreement earlier this year to help fast-track Zeekr vehicles into the Mexican market.
Zeekr (NYSE: ZK), the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of the Geely Holding Group, has launched two models in Mexico as it continues its internationalization strategy.
The Zeekr 001 shooting brake EV and the Zeekr X compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) have been officially launched in Mexico, Zeekr announced yesterday.
The Zeekr 001 has a starting price of 988,000 Mexican pesos ($54,790) in Mexico and the Zeekr X starts at 799,000 Mexican pesos.
Currently, the Zeekr 001 and Zeekr X start at RMB 269,000 ($36,990) and RMB 200,000 in China, respectively.
The Zeekr 001, the first model of Zeekr, was launched on April 17, 2021 in China and deliveries began in October 2021.
The shooting brake model has been Zeekr's main seller, with 76,246 units delivered in 2023, contributing 64 percent of the 118,685 units delivered by Zeekr for the year, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Zeekr X was initially launched in China on April 12, 2023. Zeekr rolled out the 2024 Zeekr X on January 10 and the 2025 Zeekr X on July 1.
This is the first time Zeekr has launched its EV models in Mexico and appears to have capitalized on Geely Holding Group's international footprint.
Geely Auto, Zeekr -- both part of the Geely Holding Group -- signed an agreement on February 7 to help fast-track Zeekr vehicles into the Mexican market.
Hong Kong-listed Geely Auto announced in a stock exchange announcement at the time that it had entered into a vehicle purchase agreement with Zeekr, from which it will purchase vehicles and aftermarket parts and accessories for resale in Mexico.
Geely Auto planned to cap its purchases from Zeekr at RMB 674 million in 2024, and RMB 1.56 billion and RMB 3.13 billion in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
The strategic deployment of the Zeekr brand of EVs will be of great significance in accumulating experience that will provide a key forward-looking advantage for future expansion into other Latin American countries, Geely Auto said at the time.
Zeekr is actively entering the international arena and is currently present in more than 25 major international markets.
The company plans to further expand its footprint by 2024, aiming to cover 50 global markets, Zeekr's vice president Chen Yu said at the launch of the right-hand drive version of the Zeekr X on July 17 in Hong Kong.
