The Tectrans L-series battery packs have already been mass-produced and have been selected for 21 models from 13 automakers.
Chinese power battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750) has unveiled a commercial vehicle battery brand Tectrans, or Tianxing (天行), after it dominated the passenger car battery market.
The battery maker unveiled the new brand at a brief launch event today, saying it will bring full-scenario solutions to the logistics and distribution industry.
CATL unveiled two Tectrans L series commercial vehicle battery packs, including a version that supports supercharging and another long-range version.
The Tectrans L supercharging battery supports 4C charging speeds and can be charged to 60 percent in as little as 12 minutes, CATL said.
C refers to a battery's charge multiplier, and 4C means in theory that the battery can be fully charged in a quarter of an hour.
The battery pack has a capacity of 140 kWh, an energy density of 155 Wh/kg, and a long life of eight years and 800,000 kilometers, CATL said.
The battery pack is targeted at time-sensitive scenarios, CATL said.
The Tectrans L long-range battery pack has a 200 kWh capacity and an energy density of 200 Wh/kg.
The battery pack supports a range of up to 500 kilometers and is suitable for scenarios where long-distance transportation is needed and charging is inconvenient, according to the company.
The pack allows the vehicle to travel from Hohhot to Beijing on a single charge and also has a long lifespan of eight years and 800,000 kilometers, CATL said.
In addition to these two battery packs, the Tectrans L series solution supports packs with 30 kWh to 200 kWh capacity and a range of 150 km to 500 km, CATL said.
The batteries support supercharging across the board and can be used in extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models, according to the company.
The Tectrans L-series battery packs have already been mass-produced and have been selected for 21 models from 13 automakers.
CATL expects its batteries to power electric aircraft with up to 3,000 km range
