The Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i are the first two models to feature BYD's fifth-generation DM technology, both available in five variants and with a price range of RMB 99,800 ($13,770) to RMB 139,800.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has officially rolled out the Qin L and Seal 06 hybrid sedans, both with the fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) technology, after having the models unveiled at the 2024 Beijing auto show a month ago.
The new energy vehicle (NEV) maker today launched the Qin L DM-i, Seal 06 DM-i at an event in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China, as the first two models equipped with its next-generation DM hybrid technology that delivers lower fuel consumption.
Both are mid-sized sedans with the Qin L DM-i belonging to BYD's Dynasty array and the Seal 06 DM-i belonging to the Ocean array.
They are both offered in five variants and both have a price range of RMB 99,800 ($13,770) to RMB 139,800.
The Qin L DM-i measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.
The model is available in two variants with a battery range of 80 kilometers and three variants with a battery range of 120 kilometers and battery capacities of 10.08 kWh and 15.87 kWh respectively.
These five variants are priced from RMB 99,800, RMB 109,800, RMB 119,800, RMB 129,800, RMB 139,800 respectively.
Powered by the fifth generation of DM technology, the Qin L DM-i has an engine thermal efficiency of 46.06 percent and fuel consumption as low as 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers at low charge.
At full fuel and full charge, the Qin L DM-i has a combined range of up to 2,100 kilometers, according to BYD.
The Qin L DM-i comes standard with a 1.5 L displacement engine. Its two less expensive variants are powered by motors with a maximum power of 120 kW and a peak torque of 210 Nm, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The other three variants have motors with a maximum power of 160 kW and a peak torque of 260 Nm and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
The Seal 06 DM-i measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. Apart from a slightly narrower width, the model has the same dimensions as the Qin L DM-i.
The Seal 06 DM-i is offered in five variants just like the Qin L DM-i and is also priced at a starting price of RMB 99,800, RMB 109,800, RMB 119,800, RMB 129,800 and RMB 139,800 respectively.
For the trims with the same prices, the Seal 06 DM-i and the Qin L DM-i have the same powertrain, acceleration performance, and battery capacities.
These two models with fifth-generation DM technology are BYD's latest assault on traditional fuel vehicles after the launch of the Glory edition updates earlier this year.
The Seal 06 DM-i and Qin L DM-i's lower fuel consumption and design that caters to a younger demographic are expected to win over more price-sensitive groups.
In 2024, BYD's full-year sales are expected to grow more than 20 percent from 2023, the company's chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said at an investor conference in late March.
That means BYD expects to sell more than 3.63 million vehicles this year, considering it sold 3,024,417 NEVs in 2023.
