Of these, 243 battery swap stations located in service areas of highways offer PSP services, according to Nio.

In a software update released on November 15, 2023, Nio brings PSP functionality for its vehicles based on NT 2.0 platform.

When the vehicle is traveling on the highway and NOP+ (Navigate on Pilot Plus) is turned on, it can autonomously drive from the main road to the target service area, go to a battery swap station and complete a battery swap based on the navigated route and the status of the battery swap order.

After obtaining a new battery, the vehicle can exit the battery swap station, return to the main road and continue driving autonomously by connecting to the previous NOP + status.

During this process, if the vehicle needs to queue up due to the number of users waiting for a battery swap, it can automatically queue up.

The PSP feature seamlessly connects to NOP+ to realize the automation and navigation experience in battery swap scenarios on highways, Nio said previously.

To date, Nio has 2,420 battery swap stations in China. It currently has 43 stations in Europe, 15 of which are in Germany, data monitored by CnEVPost show.

The company unveiled its fourth generation battery swap station at its Nio Day 2023 event on December 23, 2023, and said it plans to continue adding 1,000 more battery swap stations in China in 2024, bringing the total to more than 3,310 stations.

It unveiled plans to add 400 battery swap stations in 2023 at Nio Day 2022 on December 24, 2022, but raised that target to 1,000 in February last year.
