Nio Power, the power arm of Nio (NYSE: NIO), has signed an agreement with Zhongan Energy to advance the planned construction of battery swap stations.
Nio Power today signed the deal in Hefei, Anhui province, with Zhongan, which was formed in January, to collaborate on battery standards, charging and battery swap technology, charging and battery swap network construction and operation, and battery asset management, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's vice president of power business, Shen Fei, said today.
Zhongan was formally established on January 11 with the support of the Anhui provincial government and is primarily responsible for promoting the construction of an open charging and battery swap network in Anhui, Shen noted in a statement posted on the Nio App.
On the same day, Anhui Province Energy Group, Anhui Transportation Holding Group and Nio entered into a strategic partnership that will support Zhongan's construction of 1,000 all-in-one energy storage, charging and battery swap stations, Shen said.
Today's signing between Zhongan and Nio Power is aimed at taking on the work of jointly promoting the construction of these stations and the battery asset management system, according to Shen.
The signing is a further advancement of the cooperation between Zhongan and Nio Power since the establishment of Zhongan, Shen said.
Zhongan and Nio Power will jointly promote the construction of 1,000 stations to create an open energy network and an efficient battery asset management and operation system, according to the statement.
The two will expand the construction of battery swap stations to the Yangtze River Delta region as well as the whole country based on their layout in Anhui, according to the statement.
The two sides will also cooperate on battery asset management and operation models to support the promotion of battery rental service BaaS (battery as a service), the statement said.
On March 20, Nio's battery swap stations located along highways in the Yangtze River Delta reached 200, covering 92 cities, Shen noted.
As Zhongan pushes to build new battery swap stations, the network will become even denser to further enhance the power-up experience, Shen said.
Zhongan was established by several companies, including Anhui Province Energy Group, Nio and Gotion High-tech, to promote a unified charging and battery swap network across Anhui province.
On January 11, Nio entered into deals with Anhui Province Energy Group and Anhui Transportation Holding Group to support Zhongan's efforts to promote the construction of battery swap stations.
On the same day, Nio entered into battery swap business partnerships with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) and Chery, both headquartered in Anhui.
To date, Nio has 2,391 battery swap stations in China, of which 786 are located along highways, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.
Nio plans to add 1,000 more battery swap stations in China in 2024, bringing the total to more than 3,310, according to the company's plan announced on December 23 last year.
