BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) will officially launch its compact electric SUV Yuan Up on March 26, local media Yiche reported today.

The Yuan Up will be the first A0-class pure electric SUV in BYD's all-electric e-Platform 3.0, with a CLTC range of 401 km, the report noted.

The A0 class usually refers to those with a wheelbase between 2.2 meters and 2.5 meters. BYD categorizes both the Dolphin and Yuan Plus in the A0 class, though they are larger than that.

The Yuan Up measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, according to a previous filing.

For comparison, the Dolphin, the first model of BYD's e-Platform 3.0, has a length, width and height of 4,125 mm, 1,770 mm and 1,570 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

This means that the Yuan Up is larger than the Dolphin.

The Yuan Up will be powered by a single motor, which comes in two options with peak power of 70-kW and 130-kW, according to the regulatory filing in December.

The model is available in 1,430 kg, 1,520 kg and 1,540 kg variants and supports speeds up to 160 km/h.

Previous reports suggested that dealers will need to pay RMB 120,000 ($16,670), RMB 125,000, and RMB 130,000 for each of the three versions when picking up the vehicle.

It's worth noting that BYD dealers usually pick up vehicles at prices slightly higher than the final selling prices and receive a refund for the difference when the new model is officially launched.

BYD previously previewed the Yuan Up, releasing some images of the model in January and February.
