BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched three new models in the UAE and is bringing its hybrid models to the market for the first time.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Seal, Song Plus and Qin Plus in the UAE, bringing BYD's product array there to five, according to a press release it issued today.
BYD has previously offered the Han and Atto 3 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models in the UAE, and the Song Plus and Qin Plus mark the first time it has offered plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) there.
The company entered the UAE passenger car market in June last year, launching the Atto 3 on June 21 with its local partner Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company. The model, known as the Yuan Plus in China, is the BYD's first global model.
Last November, BYD opened a new flagship showroom in the UAE and made the Han BEV available.
In 2023, BYD sold 3,024,417 NEVs, an increase of 62.3 percent year-on-year. Of these, 3,012,906 passenger NEVs were sold and 11,511 commercial NEVs were sold.
BYD's overseas NEV sales in 2023 are 242,765 units, up 493.51 percent year-on-year.
BYD's initial plan for its 2024 sales target is 4 million units, with a higher 4.2 million sales forecast given to suppliers, including 2 million BEVs and 2.2 million PHEVs, according to a report by local media outlet 36kr on February 26.
Earlier today, 36kr said in a new report that BYD will launch next-generation PHEV and BEV platforms to launch a further offensive against gasoline vehicles.
The NEV maker's next-generation DM hybrid system is expected to give the vehicle a total combined range of close to 2,000 kilometers, while the e-Platform 4.0 will have a higher level of integration that is expected to further reduce costs, according to the report.
