China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales declined significantly in the first four weeks of February, as the Chinese New Year holiday caused disruption.

In February 1-25, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 283,000 units, down 22 percent from the same period last year and down 44 percent from the same period last month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China so far this year were 951,000 units, up 38 percent from the same period last year.

This year's Chinese New Year holiday ran from February 10-17, compared to January 21-27 last year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from February 1-25 were 258,000 units, down 40 percent from the same period last year and down 46 percent from the same period in January, according to the CPCA.

Cumulative wholesale sales of passenger NEVs so far this year were 940,000 units, up 15 percent from a year earlier.

From February 1-25, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 861,000 units, 25 percent lower than the same period last year and 43 percent lower than the same period last month.

This means that the penetration rate of NEVs in retail sales in China during February 1-25 was 32.87 percent.

Cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China so far this year stood at 2.895 million units, up 19 percent year-on-year.

In the first week of February -- February 1-4 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 54,289, up 48 percent year-on-year and up 1 percent from the same period in January.

In the second and third weeks of February -- February 5-17 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 25,576, down 34 percent year-on-year and down 56 percent from the same period in January. This figure was revised down slightly from the 26,323 reported by the CPCA last week.

In the fourth week of February -- February 18-25 -- average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 38,862, 38 percent lower year-on-year and 41 percent lower than in the same period in January.

In the February 1-25 period, China's wholesale sales of all passenger cars were 703,000 units, down 47 percent from a year earlier and down 49 percent from the same period last month.

Cumulative wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China so far this year stood at 2.791 million units, up 1 percent from a year earlier.

In February 1-4, China's average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars were 30,220 units, up 8 percent from a year earlier but down 36 percent from a month earlier.

In February 5-17, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 19,456 units, down 54 percent year-on-year and 64 percent lower than the same period last month. The figure was revised down slightly from the 20,073 units posted last week.

In February 18-25, average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China were 41,119, down 50 percent from a year earlier and down 33 percent from a month earlier.
