With the Chinese New Year holiday over, both BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDF) and the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) China team have released owner travel reports that show some interesting numbers.
The Chinese New Year holiday just past was from February 10-17, which is the period covered by BYD's and Tesla's travel reports.
BYD: 6.1 million owners traveled
More than 6.1 million BYD owners drove during February 10-17, with the longest mileage driven by one owner at 7,763 kilometers, according to data released today by the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.
BYD owners drove about 3.76 billion kilometers cumulatively during the holiday period, including 2.48 billion kilometers, or 66 percent, on battery power, according to its report.
BYD sold 3,024,417 NEVs in 2023, about half of which were battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the other half were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
BYD's level-2 smart driving feature is in more than 2.66 million vehicles, ranking first among automakers in China, it said.
BYD owners drove about 120 million kilometers using the ICC pilot assist feature during the Spring Festival holiday. The AEB automatic emergency braking provided protection to owners more than 330,000 times, according to BYD.
BYD owners used the automatic parking function 52,000 times during the holiday, according to its travel report.
In addition, the BYD app community had more than 4.11 million users, it said.

Tesla: Chinese owners drove over 700 million km
Chinese car owners drove a cumulative total of more than 700 million kilometers from February 10-17, which is equivalent to circling the Earth 18,346 times, or seven round trips from Earth to Mars, Tesla said yesterday on its WeChat.
This helped reduce about 160,000 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of planting 9.39 million trees, Tesla said.
Hundreds of Tesla owners averaged more than 500 km per day, according to its report.
Tesla's charging network covers all provinces in the Chinese mainland and maintains an availability rate of more than 99.5 percent, it said.
To date, Tesla has more than 1,900 Supercharger stations in the Chinese mainland, offering more than 11,000 chargers. It also has more than 700 destination charging stations offering more than 2,000 charging piles.
Before March 31, owners can participate in a limited-time campaign to use Tesla Superchargers for a chance to get a free supercharger valid for one year and up to 10,000 kilometers, according to its travel report.
