Xpeng Aeroht will open pre-orders for its modular flying car in China in the fourth quarter, with mass production and delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025, the flying car subsidiary of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) announced yesterday.

Xpeng Aeroht showcased its other unibody flying car at the ongoing CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2024 event, marking its first appearance on the international stage. Its modular flying car was not present at the CES event.

Aeroht's flying car development path will include an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flying car and a modular flying car, Xpeng said at the October 24, 2023 Tech Day event.

The modular vehicle will consist of a flying car and a parent vehicle that will power the car.

The mother vehicle will have an extended-range powertrain with 6*6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering.

The modular flying car will be the world's first split flying car to be delivered to individuals, said Wang Tan, co-founder and vice president of Xpeng Aeroht, according to a press release yesterday.

On December 1, Xpeng Aeroht announced that it received a pre-order for 100 units of the modular flying car at an intelligent transportation expo in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

The booked flying cars will be used in the management of transportation areas such as roads and waterways, as well as flight camp experiences and shuttle transportation, the company previously said.

Founded in 2013, Xpeng Aeroht is a technology division majority-owned by Xpeng and its chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng.

At the Shanghai auto show in April 2021, the company unveiled the X1, which is the size of a regular car and can take off and land vertically in a parking space.

Since then, Xpeng has announced several new versions of its flying car.

To accelerate its flying car development, Xpeng Aeroht put its first trial plant into operation on July 25, 2022.

Located in Guangzhou, the 35,000-square-meter facility consists of two pilot production workshops, a power test center, and a flying car test center.

By the end of 2024, XNGP will be available across the road network in major cities in China, and NGP functionality will be available in Europe by then, Xpeng said.
