Denza, BYD's majority-owned joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, will launch its MPV model, the D9, in Hong Kong in 2024, Zhao Changjiang, general manager of the company's sales division, hinted today.
"What do you think is the right pricing for the Denza D9 if it is launched in Hong Kong in 2024?" Zhao wrote on Weibo today.
Denza is a joint venture formed in February 2011 by BYD and Daimler, with each holding a 50 percent stake at the time. In February 2022, the Daimler brand was rebranded as Mercedes-Benz.
BYD's stake in Denza increased to 90 percent in the last year, and Mercedes-Benz's stake decreased to 10 percent.
The D9 is the first model of the revamped Denza brand, and the MPV went on sale on August 23, 2022, and deliveries started on October 25.
Zhao did not provide any further details on the D9's Hong Kong launch today. But he did mention in March that the D9 will be sold in Hong Kong, Macau and European markets at a price of 600,000 yuan ($82,260) - 1 million yuan.
In the Chinese mainland, the Denza D9 currently starts at RMB 335,800, with the model being offered in hybrid and pure electric versions.
After the D9, Denza launched the Denza N7 in the Chinese mainland on July 3, the company's first SUV to take on the Tesla Model Y.
On July 29, the Denza N7 began deliveries in the Chinese mainland.
On August 5, Denza launched another SUV, the N8, in the Chinese mainland, with its deliveries beginning on August 22.
