In the January-August period, Tesla sold 624,983 China-made vehicles, up 56.27 percent year-on-year.
Tesla (NASDAQ TSLA) sold 84,159 China-made vehicles in August, including exports, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
That's up 30.92 percent from 64,285 in July and up 9.35 percent from 76,965 in the same month last year.
In the January-August period, Tesla sold 624,983 China-made vehicles, up 56.27 percent year-on-year, data monitored by CnEVPost showed.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV, which not only supplies local customers, but is also an export hub for the US electric vehicle (EV) maker.
Tesla lowered the prices of the Model Y in China last month and began pre-sales of the revamped version of the Model 3 in China earlier this month.
Tesla currently offers three versions of the Model Y in China -- an entry-level rear-wheel-drive version, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive Model Y Long Range, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive Model Y Performance.
The company cut the prices of both the Model Y Long Range as well as the Model Y Performance in China by RMB 14,000 yuan ($1,930), or about 4 percent, on August 14. The entry-level Model Y was unchanged at the time.
With this move, the starting price of the Model Y Long Range has been lowered to RMB 299,900 from RMB 313,900, and the starting price of the Model Y Performance has been lowered to RMB 349,900 from RMB 363,900.
Earlier today, the Model Y Long Range's wait time in China was extended to six to eight weeks from the previous two to six weeks.
Tesla unexpectedly began pre-sales of the updated Model 3 in China on September 1, and then had the model debuted at the China International Fair For Trade in Services, which is being held in Beijing.
The new Model 3 continues to offer an entry-level, single-motor, rear-wheel-drive model, but the previously available dual-motor Performance version has been replaced by a dual-motor Long Range version.
Pre-sale prices for the entry rear-wheel drive Model 3 in China start at RMB 259,900, which is RMB 28,000, or 12 percent, higher than the old model's starting price of RMB 231,900.
The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive, long-range version of the Model 3 starts at RMB 295,900 for pre-sale. For comparison, the previously available dual-motor, all-wheel-drive performance version of the Model 3 has a starting price of RMB 331,900.
Before the updated Model 3 was announced, some Tesla stores in China had already begun accepting customer pre-orders for the model, and as more and more people wait for the updated vehicle, as previously reported by local media.
