CATL will hold a new product launch event on August 16, which will be the first time the Chinese power battery giant has held a launch event offline.
The launch event will start at 3 pm on August 16 and will be streamed live online, according to a poster CATL posted on Weibo today.
CATL didn't mention what product it will be releasing, but it is related to faster speeds, possibly a new fast-charging battery technology.
The company last unveiled new battery technology during the Shanghai auto show, announcing the Condensed Battery on April 19.
CATL's Condensed Battery will have high safety and high energy density, with a single cell having an energy density of up to 500 Wh/kg, the company's chief scientist Wu Kai said at the time.
CATL has constructed a micron-sized adaptive mesh structure that regulates inter-chain interaction forces in response to changes in the electrochemical reactions of ultra-high energy density chemistries, Wu said.
The battery also introduces a series of innovations in the isolation film as well as innovative processes, including a high-energy anode and a new type of anode, he said.
CATL was in the process of collaborative development of a civilian electric manned program and was implementing aviation-grade standards in the process to meet aviation-grade safety and quality requirements, he said at the time.
The Condensed Battery will also be able to be used in electric vehicles and will have mass production capability within this year, Wu said.
CATL is the world's largest power battery maker, with a share of 36.8 percent in the first half of this year, the only one of the top 10 with a share of more than 30 percent, according to data released on August 3 by South Korean market researcher SNE Research.
CATL's batteries are installed in many major passenger EV models in the Chinese domestic market, such as the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, SAIC Mulan, GAC Aion Y and Nio ET5, as well as Chinese commercial vehicle models, and continue to grow steadily, SNE Research said.
