BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has brought its flagship SUV, the Tang EV, to Ecuador, having already debuted three other models in the South American country.
The Tang EV, which saw its local debut at the Guayaquil Auto Show in Ecuador, is a seven-seat SUV with a total of 509 hp and 700 Nm of torque, and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, BYD said in a press release today.
The model is powered by BYD's signature blade battery with a CLTC range of 635 kilometers.
BYD is the first brand to present a complete portfolio of zero emission vehicles in Ecuador, and the company introduced three new all-electric models in May: the Han EV, the Yuan Plus, and the Dolphin, said Santiago Mena, brand manager for the Andor Corporation, BYD's Ecuadorian distributor.
BYD has now opened five stores in Ecuador and is creating a localized sales and service system with Andor, according to its press release.
BYD held a brand launch event in Ecuador's capital city of Quito on May 3 and presented three models -- the Han EV, Yuan Plus EV and Dolphin, in the country.
At that event, BYD announced a strategic partnership with Andor, which will display BYD models in three shopping centers -- Quicentro Shopping, Paseo San Francisco and Mall del Sol, according to a previous press release.
Over the next six months, Andor will establish six points of sale in Quito, Guayaquil and Manta, with plans to expand to 12 points of sale by 2024, BYD said in May.
BYD is stepping up its efforts to expand its presence in international markets, with the Americas being one of its most important markets.
On July 11, BYD said it launched BYD World -- an interactive virtual dealership -- with AI and meta-universe company MeetKai.
BYD World went live first in Ecuador and will be rolled out in all Latin American countries in a few weeks, BYD said at the time.
BYD sold 253,046 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, up 88.79 percent from 134,036 in the same month a year ago, and up 5.34 percent from 240,220 in May, according to figures it released earlier this month.
In June, BYD sold 10,536 NEVs in overseas markets, up 3.26 percent from 10,203 in May.
