BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) exported a new batch of more than 1,000 hybrids to Colombia, having introduced the first 500 hybrids to the Latin American country earlier in the year.
A total of 1,200 vehicles equipped with BYD's DM-i super hybrid system recently departed from Xi'an, Shaanxi province and arrived in Colombia, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant said today.
This is BYD's largest number of units in a single export, including 200 units of the Qin Plus DM-i and 1,000 units of the Song Plus DM-i.
The two models were officially launched in Colombia in March and are popular with local consumers for their high fuel economy and strong overall range, BYD said.
Starting in 2020, BYD has partnered with local dealer Motorysa to sell its full range of new energy passenger vehicles in Colombia, including the Han EV and Tang EV, as well as the Qin Plus DM-i and Song Plus DM-i.
On October 20, BYD announced the launch of the Yuan Plus in Colombia, the latest Latin American country the model has entered, following the Costa Rican, Uruguayan and Dominican markets.
Notably, unlike BYD's move to market the Yuan Plus in most overseas markets under the Atto 3 name, BYD launched the model in Colombia as the Yuan Plus EV.
To date, BYD has delivered nearly 3,000 NEVs to Colombia, making it one of the major new energy passenger car brands in the local market, the company said today.
BYD's NEV footprint has spread to major Latin American countries including Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Dominica, Costa Rica and Uruguay, driving the electrification of Latin American transportation, it said.
BYD sold 230,427 NEVs in November, a new all-time high and the third consecutive month of more than 200,000 units, according to figures released by the company earlier this month.
In November, BYD sold 12,318 NEVs in overseas markets, up 29.27 percent from 9,529 units in October. The company first announced overseas sales figures for NEVs in July.
The BYD Song family sold 64,145 units in November, up 155.79 percent from 25,077 units in the same month last year and up 12.85 percent from 56,843 units in October.
The Qin family sold 28,320 units in November, down 5.75 percent year-on-year and 18.32 percent from October.
