Weiming Soh, former executive vice president of Volkswagen China, officially unveiled his electric vehicle brand BeyonCa on Sunday and unveiled the first concept car, the Gran Turismo Opus 1 (GT Opus 1).
The company plans to unveil the first model and its brand's Chinese name next spring, with the first production model due to roll off the line in 2024, according to a press release.
BeyonCa, which stands for "Go Beyond the Car," will think beyond the car to build mobility solutions and health ecosystems that deliver unique experiences for users, the company said.
BeyonCa currently has offices in five cities in China, Germany and Singapore, including three R&D centers in China, a design center in Munich and a branch in Singapore that it plans to upgrade to a technology center in the future.
The company's car-building concept has been endorsed by strategic investors, including Dongfeng Motor, it said.
BeyonCa debuted its first concept model, the GT Opus 1, with a Dynamic Logo on Sunday, the first in the world to do so.
The logo is embedded in the GT Opus 1's V-shaped front design and, together with the Surrounding Interactive System, creates a new window for human-vehicle communication, the company said.
The GT Opus 1 embodies BeyonCa's sporty DNA and will be followed by a sporty version of the RS edition, which will showcase more sporty qualities then, according to Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, the company's chief technology officer.
BeyonCa focuses on health, bringing together a team of expert doctors, automotive engineers, and software and data engineers to create a health eco-service HaaS (Health as a Service), the company said.
The company will provide users with health management and smart healthcare solutions by integrating AI technology, smart driving and health management services, it said.
BeyonCa has developed a smart cockpit with a real-time health monitoring system and appointed a cardiovascular disease specialist as its chief health officer.
BeyonCa was founded in 2021 by Soh, who spent 16 years at Volkswagen and also served as CEO of Renault China.
Previously, it was reported that BeyonCa's first model would take on the Porsche Taycan and could be priced at the RMB 1 million ($137,900) level.
The Taycan is Porsche's first all-electric model, with a price tag starting at RMB 888,000 in China.
In early December last year, local media Cailian first reported that Soh had created a car company called Binli, and said that Dongfeng Motor had invested in the company and planned to OEM the vehicles for it.
