Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750) recently entered into a partnership with European electric bus maker Solaris to help drive the transition to electric urban mobility in Europe, the largest Chinese power battery maker announced today.

CATL will provide Solaris' buses with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries using CTP (cell to pack) technology to drive the electrification of buses, the company said.

Thanks to the long life and high thermal stability of CATL's LFP system, Solaris' electric buses will demonstrate significant advantages in safety and temperature resilience, CATL said.

CATL's CTP technology increases battery energy density and payload of electric buses, eliminating the need for battery modules in traditional battery packs, the company said.

Solaris, based in Poland, is one of Europe's leading bus and trolleybus manufacturers, having built more than 22,000 vehicles in the past 25 years.

In 2021, Solaris is ranked No. 1 in the European zero-emission bus market. This latest partnership will help Solaris to further broaden its product range with new battery solutions, according to a CATL press release.

The partnership will also further improve CATL's global footprint in the commercial business and accelerate the global transition to commercial vehicle electrification, the power battery giant said.

As a supplier to and (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866, SGX: Nio), CATL is the largest maker of power batteries in China.

CATL's installed base in China in April was 5.08 GWh, with a 38.3 percent market share, according to data released earlier this month by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA). installed 4.27 GWh in April, ranking second with a 32.2 percent market share.

In the global market, CATL remains the largest power battery manufacturer.

In the first quarter, global power cell shipments were 95.1 GWh, up 93.3 percent year-on-year, according to a report released by Seoul-based SNE Research on May 2.

CATL maintained its leadership position as the world's largest electric vehicle battery maker, shipping 33.3 GWh in the first quarter, with a 35 percent share, according to the report.

CATL's latest share increased by 0.6 percentage points compared to its 34.4 percent share at the end of February.
