Nio (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) announced that it has joined forces with a local environmental group on its Clean Parks initiative on the occasion of the 22nd International Day for Biological Diversity.

The company and Polar Hub have entered into a partnership to carry out exploration in areas including biological diversity protection, ecological restoration, use of clean energy, citizen science and public education and communications, it announced today on its app.

Polar Hub, known as the Tianjin Polar Climate Change Response Promotion Center, was co-founded by renowned Chinese scientists and explorers in May 2017.

It is the first Chinese public interest organization dedicated to climate change response and practicing sustainable development goals, mainly through scientific expeditions and climate change science promotion, according to its official website.

Nio announced the Clean Parks initiative at the Nio Day 2021 event held on December 18, in addition to the launch of the new sedan ET5, which aims to help ecological guarding of environmentally sensitive areas.

Over the next three years, Nio will invest RMB 100 million ($15.7 million) to support the use of electric vehicles and the construction of clean energy infrastructure in nature reserves around the world, according to William Li, the company's founder, chairman and CEO.

Nio will help these areas build a clean, low-carbon energy self-cycling system that guards the originality and integrity of ecosystems, the company previously said.

In addition to its collaboration on the Clean Parks initiative, Nio will also participate in Polar Hub's COP15 Youth Biodiversity Science Exploration Hainan event with China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the company said today. COP-15 refers to the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Based on this cooperation, Nio will be the event's ecological co-construction partner to help young people guard marine biodiversity, it said.

This is Nio's latest effort to promote public efforts to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment, following the launch of its Blue Point program on Nio Day 2020.

Last year, Nio has supported several nature reserves in China, and these attempts have prompted Nio to think about how to turn it into a more systematic and long-term initiative, the company said at its Nio Day 2021 event on December 18.

That includes working with Sansha city in Hainan province to launch a green island conservation initiative and providing electric vehicles and charging facilities to Sanjiangyuan National Park.
