The 150,000th vehicle in BYD's flagship Han family rolled off the assembly line today at the company's global headquarters in Shenzhen, 17 months after the model's launch.
BYD held a ceremony today to mark the occasion, saying that not only has Han's production capacity not declined, but it is also growing at an accelerating rate amid the chip shortage and capacity constraints facing the automotive industry.
That's thanks to BYD's strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities and the advantages of the entire industrial chain, with the company now the only new energy vehicle (NEV) company in China that has mastered core technologies including batteries, motors and electric controls at the same time, it said.
BYD Han was launched in July last year, including the Han EV, an all-electric version with an NEDC range of 605 kilometers, and the Han DM, a hybrid model with a range of only 81 kilometers on pure electric power.
The 100,000th vehicle of the Han family rolled off the production line on July 20.
The model sold 12,841 units in November, up 27 percent year-on-year and up about 16 percent from October, according to BYD data released earlier this month.
This is the third consecutive month that Han family models have sold more than 10,000 units, with cumulative sales of 144,520 units since its launch in July last year, data monitored by CnEVPost shows.
Han EV sold 10,021 units in November, the first time it exceeded 10,000 units, up 21 percent from 8,287 units in October.
In addition to the Han EV and Han DM, BYD is expected to introduce more derivative models for the family.
In BYD's product array, the vehicles have EV, DM and DM-i versions, depending on the form of power. The EV stands for pure electric, while the DM and DM-i versions are both hybrid versions, except that the latter focuses more on fuel economy.
As reported by yiche.com last month, the Han DM-i version is undergoing road testing and looks almost identical to the Han EV and Han DM, except that the rear badge has been changed to Han DM-i.
A vehicle that appears to be a convertible version of the Han EV was photographed in front of FAW Toyota's factory, which is closely covered by camouflage, according to a report by yiche.com yesterday.
The car shares the same front design style as the BYD Han EV, with the biggest difference being the convertible's shape, according to the report.
In addition, BYD also seems to be building a touring version based on the Han DM, and the spy photos show the vehicle has a lot of space at the rear, according to yiche.com.
