After several days of warm-up, Great Wall Motor's premium EV brand Saloon unveiled its first model at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which opened today.
Dubbed the Mecha Dragon (机甲龙), the model is positioned as an all-electric coupe, and Saloon is showing a limited global version at the show, which will be available in only 101 units.
This version is priced at RMB 488,000 ($76,400), well above the RMB 200,000 range that is currently the mainstream for local Chinese brands.
In the future the Saloon brand will focus on the RMB 400,000-800,000 market and aim to become the number one luxury pure electric brand in China, Great Wall Motor said.
The car is the first in the world to announce the use of four LiDARs, a 96-line hybrid solid-state LiDAR supplied by Huawei.
It will also have 38 intelligent sensing elements forming a super-smart sensing system, including seven 8-megapixel cameras, four surround-view cameras, five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and one independent high-precision positioning unit.
The vehicle will adopt Da Vinci architecture with NPU computing power up to 400 Tops and CPU computing power up to 440K DMIPS.
The car will be equipped with front and rear permanent magnet motors with a maximum power of 405 kW, peak torque of 750 Nm, and 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.
It is powered by Great Wall Motor's Dayu battery pack that claims not to catch fire, with a capacity of 115kWh and a CLTC range of 802 km.
The car supports 800V/480kW supercharging, which can add 401km of range in 10 minutes.
The company has not announced when the model will be available, although local media cls.cn, citing sources familiar with the matter, said it will be delivered in the first half of next year.
Saloon is aiming for global sales of 200,000 units by 2025 and to release a new car each year, according to the report.
