More than 400,000 public charging piles in China now support payments using UnionPay Mobile QuickPass, covering more than 60 percent of all public charging piles, the company said on August 23.

Owners can choose to pay for charging with UnionPay Mobile QuickPass from the apps of charging operators including TELD, Star Charge and China State Grid.

Owners can also use UnionPay Mobile QuickPass to scan the QR code on the charging piles to pay directly.

From now until December 31, owners can get a discount of up to 10 RMB ($1.54) when paying for charging with UnionPay Mobile QuickPass.

As of June, China had 923,000 public charging piles, according to data released by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA) in July.

In June, the number of public charging piles in China increased by 39,000 units, up 65.4% year-over-year, according to the data.

The public charging infrastructure construction areas are more concentrated, with the top 10 regions including Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing having 72.3% of the public charging infrastructure, according to the EVCIPA.

As of June, 11 charging pile operators in China owned more than 10,000 charging piles, and their combined number accounted for 91.9 percent of the total.

TGood has 220,000 charging piles, Star Charge has 202,000 and China State Grid has 196,000, the data shows.
