Haima Motor, the OEM of the Xpeng Motors G3, recently said it has built a prototype hydrogen fuel cell vehicle while communicating with investors.
The company said it has completed the development of its first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle prototype. A third generation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is being developed with the aim of putting about 2,000 hydrogen energy vehicles into operation by 2025.
The third-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle will feature a higher-powered electric stack, a more efficient electric drive system, safer hydrogen storage technology and a longer-lasting catalyst, the company said.
On August 7, Haima Motor's "Integrated Hydrogen Water Production and High-Pressure Hydrogen Refueling Experimental Plant Project" began construction in China's southernmost province of Hainan.
The project, signed in April, is the first integrated water-to-hydrogen and high-pressure hydrogen refueling station in Hainan and is scheduled to be completed and operational by October.
In January 2020, the Haima 7X, China's first 70MPa hydrogen fuel cell MPV, was unveiled in Hainan.
The vehicle is equipped with a 120kW high-powered fuel cell and a 70MPa high-pressure hydrogen cylinder, and has a range of over 800km.
Haima sold 16,500 cumulative vehicles in the first half of 2021, 11,200 of which were Xpeng G3s, accounting for 67.95 percent.
Xpeng contributes 88.24 percent of Haima's SUV sales, while Haima itself sells less than 900 units per month.
Haima's partnership agreement with Xpeng, which began in 2017, is set to expire on December 31, 2021, and the two parties have said it will not be renewed.
Haima's shares traded in Shenzhen shot up to the 10 percent daily trading limit after Chinese media reported the development Monday afternoon.
