Since China launched a new round of pilot policies to support the photovoltaic (PV) sector on June 20, 25 provinces have now submitted proposals, signaling a major change in the sector's landscape is imminent, the Shanghai Securities News reported Monday.

Among the 25 provinces that have submitted pilot programs to promote in local counties, the economically developed provinces have reported a higher number of pilot counties, with an average of about 20 per province, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Based on this estimation, there have been at least 500 projects reported. According to the scale of 200 MW per county, the scale of installed distributed PV in the pilot or more than 100 GW, the person familiar with the matter said.

"This is just the first batch, China has 3,000 counties, the whole market space may be in the scale of 750 GW," the report quoted SOLARZOOM vice president Ma Yiwei as saying.

The model, if adopted on a large scale, could greatly increase the installed capacity of new PV, said Peng Peng, secretary-general of the New Energy Power Investment Alliance.

For listed companies, this is expected to expand their equipment sales, Peng said.
