An EC6 in Shanghai's Pudong New Area was badly damaged after hitting a barrier stone pier at high speed just after 5 a.m. on July 30, resulting in the tragic death of the user, Nio said.
"We are working with the authorities to analyze the cause of the accident. We will keep you informed if we need to update you," Xia Qinghua, general manager of the Nio Shanghai branch, said in an announcement posted on the Nio App.
Xia said that he and his colleagues at the scene made a preliminary judgment based on the damaged vehicle that the battery pack was basically intact.
William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said he was very sad about this and that the company had set up a team to help with the aftermath and accident investigation.
Nio did not provide more information for the time being, however, according to Sina Auto, the vehicle caught fire in the front half of the body after the impact.
Thepaper.cn quoted Nio as saying that the fire department has now determined that it was a traffic accident.
The traffic accident investigation will be conducted by the traffic police next. "We will fully cooperate with the traffic police to carry out the next step," Nio said.
