Motors Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng discussed the location of the company's research and development center and fourth factory with local officials in Chengdu in western China's Sichuan province on July 27, EV Hui reported Thursday.

Xpeng celebrated the one-year anniversary of the delivery of its flagship sedan P7 on July 27, and the company held an event in Chengdu to celebrate the occasion. He held talks with officials from Chengdu's Jinjiang district before attending the event, with the aim of increasing investment in the area, according to the report.

He said that Xpeng will continue to invest in Chengdu in the future and will locate more projects in Chengdu and Jinjiang District, according to the report.

Sources from Xpeng responded that they were not aware of this, while people from Jinjiang District said they were currently negotiating with Xpeng about cooperation, including R&D centers and factories, the report said.

If the negotiations are successful, the R&D center will be located in Jinjiang District, but the factory will probably be in Longquan Industrial Zone, the source said. Longquan Industrial Zone is a national-level economic and technological development zone, which is mainly home to machinery and automotive factories.

Xpeng started cooperation with Jinjiang District in 2018, and has since built a number of projects in the area, including sales, car rental, and travel.

Currently, Xpeng's R&D center is headquartered in Guangzhou and has R&D branches in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Silicon Valley, and San Diego.

On April 8, Xpeng announced an RMB 10 billion investment to establish a manufacturing base and R&D center in Wuhan, the third Xpeng manufacturing base, with the other two in Zhaoqing and Guangzhou.

Xpeng's June deliveries reached 6565 units, up 15% from the previous month and up 617% year-on-year.

Xpeng's first-half deliveries reached 30,738 units, already surpassing last year's 27,041 deliveries for the entire year.
