Tesla's new version of the Model Y, which was launched earlier this month and is eligible for China's state subsidies, has garnered the company plenty of orders, and now its US counterpart Ford Motor is following suit.

Ford's all-electric SUV Mustang Mach-E has added a new long-range rear-drive SE version for RMB 282,000 ($43,500) after subsidies, the company announced Saturday in Beijing.

In China, RMB 300,000 is a benchmark that the vast majority of electric car companies must consider when pricing their products. Because under current subsidy policies, models above this price are not eligible for subsidies, but battery swap-enabled models offered by companies including are not subject to this restriction.

Previously the Mustang Mach-E was offered in four versions in China, but only one was priced below RMB 300,000. With the new version, two models are eligible for China's state subsidy.

Ford said the move provided customers with multiple personalized choices and was the result of Ford's Electric Vehicle Division continuing to listen to customer needs.

The latest version can be seen as an upgrade to the standard-range rear-drive version, which costs RMB 265,000, but is more of a downgrade from the long-range rear-drive version, much like the new Model Y from Tesla.

Compared to the standard range rear-wheel-drive version, the long-range rear-wheel-drive SE version has an increased range of 105 kilometers and an increased total maximum powertrain output of 23 kilowatts.

Compared to the long-range rear-drive version, which costs RMB 309,900, the SE version has identical specifications for the powertrain and battery system, except that the latter does not have features that include double-pane quiet glass in the front and a rearview mirror that automatically flips down when backing up.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E long-range rear-drive SE version will be available for pre-order in China in the fall, with deliveries scheduled to begin in late 2021.

Ford promises that customers who pay the vehicle deposit and complete the formal signing of the purchase contract on or before December 31, 2021, and pick up the vehicle within the notification time will be able to purchase the vehicle at the post-subsidy price in accordance with the 2021 national new energy vehicle price subsidy standard.

In addition to the guaranteed price benefits, the company also offers an 8-year or 160,000-kilometer vehicle and tri-electric system warranty for the first owner, unlimited roadside assistance, free lifetime basic traffic, free smart grid-connected home charging pile and supporting installation services.
