As more consumers turn to electric vehicles, the number of fires associated with them is growing in tandem.
From January to May 2021, there were 34 electric vehicle fires in China, 20 more than in the same period last year, according to market research firm GGII.
There were 10 electric vehicle fires in April, making it the month with the highest number of such accidents. As temperatures rise, severe weather such as high temperatures and exposure to the sun can affect the safety of electric vehicles.

The model with a high incidence of electric vehicle fire accidents is new energy passenger cars, with 27 fire accidents from January to May, accounting for 79 percent of the total.
There were fewer fire accidents in the field of new energy buses, with three. In the field of new energy special vehicles, there were 4 fire accidents, accounting for 12 percent of the total, the data showed.
From January to May 2021, pure electric vehicles are still the vehicles with the largest proportion of fire accidents, GGII said.
From the point of view of the state of the vehicle at the time of the accident, 20 fires were happened when moving, accounting for 59 percent.
The next is the charging state in 10 fires, accounting for 29 percent. Stationary state fire accidents occurred in a total of 4, accounting for 12 percent.
