GAC's graphene battery, which can be recharged 80% in 8 mins, has started mass production testing

GAC Group's graphene battery has entered mass production testing in real vehicles and it will release details about that technology at the end of this month, cls.cn reported Friday.

In November last year, GAC said its graphene battery technology was scheduled to be tested in production vehicles by the end of 2020 while stressing that the final realization of mass production was still pending the results of real-world vehicle verification.

GAC claimed at the time that the graphene "super-fast charging battery" could charge the battery to 85 percent in just eight minutes.

But GAC Aion, the group's new energy vehicle company, backed off some of that claim in a Weibo post today, saying it could recharge the battery to 80 percent in eight minutes.

Even so, if mass production is eventually achieved, the charging time of this battery will be comparable to the refueling time of a traditional fuel car, which will be a technological revolution for new energy vehicle batteries.

Hours after releasing a statement Thursday afternoon Beijing time that it will be the first car company in China to accept Bitcoin payments, GAC Nio has apologized for it.

GAC Aion also said in its Weibo that the NEDC range of this battery is 1,000 kilometers, adding that this new power battery technology "will be carried in mass production soon, so you don't have to wait until next year".

On May 13, GAC's new energy department announced that graphene battery mass production research and development work will come out of the laboratory and mass production vehicles, and will be equipped with relevant graphene battery technology results in some models of GAC Aion's new energy vehicles at the end of 2020.

As early as 2014, GAC Group started the research and development of graphene technology. After nearly six years of exploration, GAC has gradually mastered the preparation and application technology of three-dimensional structure graphene (3DG) materials with independent intellectual property rights.

This is also another demonstration of key technologies in the field of battery by Chinese independent auto brands after BYD launched blade battery.

The AION V has the world's first 5G and V2X in-vehicle intelligent communication system and is equipped with the world's first automotive-grade 5G module MH5000 - based on Huawei's new-generation Baron 5000 5G chip.
