A 5G-capable electric car has been launched by a Chinese automaker but is facing the reality of a chip shortage.
On December 24, the GAC AION V, the world's first mass-produced 5G vehicle equipped with Huawei's latest-generation Baron 5000 chip, went off the production line and will be delivered to users.
However, according to Yicai, there is currently a shortage of Huawei chips, and only 200 of the latest generation 5G vehicle modules (Baron 5000 chips) have all been provided to GAC AION.
Xiao Yong, deputy general manager of GAC AION, said in an interview with Yicai that this means only 200 units of the AION V, the world's first mass-produced 5G car, are available for now.
He also said that other local car companies' 5G production car plans will also be affected, and the chip issue needs to be resolved urgently.
According to GAC, the AION V has the world's first 5G and V2X in-vehicle intelligent communication system developed by GAC.
It is equipped with the world's first automotive-grade 5G module MH5000 - based on Huawei's new generation Baron 5000 5G chip.
5G has three advantages: high speed, low latency, and wide connectivity, with transmission speed over a hundred times faster than 4G, time delay only 1/50 of 4G, and can connect millions of terminals simultaneously.
