China's new energy vehicle sales reached 200,000 units in November, up 24.1 percent from October and 104.9 percent from a year earlier, according to data released Friday by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Compared with the same period of the previous year, pure electric vehicle car sales grew at a year-on-year rate of 136.8%, and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales grew at a rate of 137.6%.

From January to November, new energy vehicle sales were 1.109 million units, up 3.9 percent year-on-year, ending a downward trend.

Looking at the overall auto market, passenger car sales in November were 2.297 million units, up 11.6 percent year-on-year. Passenger car production in November grew 7.5 percent year-on-year.

In November, car sales were 2.770 million units, up 7.6 percent from October and 12.6 percent year-on-year. As of November, China's auto sales have shown growth for eight consecutive months.

Fu Bingfeng, executive vice president and secretary-general of the CAAM, said recently that China's passenger car sales are expected to exceed 20 million and commercial vehicle sales to exceed 5 million this year.

Bai Hua, an official at China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said China expects to sell over 1.3 million new energy vehicles this year, up from 1.2 million units last year.
