The China website has released the China-made Model Y configurator, which users can choose from with 2 models, the long-range all-wheel drive version and the Performance version, with a pre-order price of RMB 488,000 (about $70,000) - RMB 535,000.

The China-made Model Y will begin rolling off the production line at the Shanghai Gigafactory in early 2021, Chinese media cited an unnamed Tesla executive as saying on August 20.

The Model Y, Tesla's second SUV, was released in March of last year. Its deliveries were initially not scheduled to begin until the fall of 2020, but thanks to a revamped production line and a smooth climb, deliveries in the US began in late March of this year, ahead of schedule.

Both models of the China-made Model Y are dual-motor, four-wheel drive models with an optional seven-seat seating layout for an optional price of RMB 27,800, but that option is not yet available.

The long-range version of the Model Y has an operating range of 505km and a 0-100km acceleration time of 5.1 seconds. Its high-performance version has a 480km range and a 0-100km acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.

In July this year, Tesla's Shanghai factory posted a large number of job openings, including 1,000 workers. Media reports suggest that the hiring is in preparation for the production of the Model Y.

Production of the China-made Model Y is expected to begin in 2021, if customers order now.
