"The anti-epidemic experience from China is being exported to the U.S. as a model for the U.S. plant that just resumed operations." China's vice president of external affairs Grace Tao recently said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency.

Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory production capacity climb and the second phase of factory construction are progressing smoothly, the new model Model Y is expected to mass production in the first quarter of next year, again running out of "Tesla speed", she said.

Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, located in Shanghai's new Free Trade Zone Lingang, is the first wholly foreign-owned automobile production plant in China after the liberalization of foreign-invested share ratios in the automotive industry. 2019, this plant has achieved the "Tesla speed" of the year started, the year started and the year delivered.

Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory is also one of the first car manufacturing plants to resume production in China.

According to Grace Tao, the plant is currently well underway and is expected to reach its weekly production target of 4,000 units by June this year, meaning that actual production will exceed the design capacity of the Phase 1 Gigafactory, which is designed to produce 150,000 units per year.

Grace Tao said that Gigafactory Phase II is also progressing very well, with construction expected to be completed by the end of this year and production of Model Y models expected in the first quarter of next year. It's just over a year since Tesla founder Musk announced the launch of the Model Y manufacturing project in Shanghai on January 7 this year, refreshing the "Tesla Speed" again.

Grace Tao said Tesla has worked closely with the government in the fight against the epidemic at the Shanghai factory, and has explored a number of experiences that have been shared not only with the new area of Lingang in the Free Trade Zone, where the Gigafactory is located, but also with the US factory that has just resumed operations.

"How can returning field employees be segregated? How can employees get the job done while reducing close contacts? These experiences are written into Tesla's 'China Operations Manual' and are used as a basis for localization in the U.S. to support a better return to production at U.S. plants." Grace Tao said.
