The cause of spontaneous combustion was investigated by the General Administration of Customs and confirmed by Audi. The vehicle spontaneously ignites because the conductive bracket of the starter motor has an internal short circuit risk due to manufacturing and assembly process problems.
At the same time, Audi provided a list of imported Audi vehicles equipped with the same starting motors. The list shows that the problem vehicles include A4 2.0T, A5 2.0T, A6 2.0T, and A7 2.0T.
And from the list, it can be found that the vehicles involved are all 2.0T version models, with more than 1,800 vehicles, of which more than 600 are already on sale. Audi will then eliminate the risk by replacing all vehicles with a new safe start motor.
