Tesla has sparked widespread concern in China for refusing to deliver to a buyer who purchased a Model 3 through Pinduoduo.

With the world's largest electric car market - China's market competition intensified in July, China-made Tesla car registrations decreased compared to the previous month.

A merchant on Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo previously raised widespread concern by selling a Tesla Model 3 at a steep discount. Now, Tesla is refusing to sell it to them.

Tesla set up an insurance brokerage company in China on August 6 with a registered capital of 50 million yuan, regulatory documents show.

Driven by Tesla's production, Shanghai's output of new energy vehicles reached 70,400 units in the first half of the year, soaring 126.9 percent year-on-year, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed.

Tesla (Beijing) Co Ltd was recently fined 50,000 yuan ($7,220) by the Beijing Chaoyang District Market Supervision Administration.

With Tesla's rapid development in China, many believe that the Tesla supply chain is the next Apple chain, which will create a rapid take-off of suppliers. But an opinion piece in the official media Securities Times today says that in reality, this idea is too simplistic.

Tesla's revenue in China rose 102.9 percent year-on-year to $1.4 billion in the second quarter of this year, keeping China as its second-largest market after the United States, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to the latest new energy vehicle catalog released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), 332 models, including two models produced by Tesla (Shanghai), have been included in the catalog.
