The BYD Xia has been renamed the BYD M9 in Mexico, with a starting price of 979,800 Mexican pesos ($52,120).

BYD has shelved plans to build a major factory in Mexico due to geopolitical tensions and uncertainty caused by Trump's trade policies, Bloomberg reported.

China is delaying approval for BYD and Geely to produce cars in Latin America as US tariffs fuel trade and economic uncertainties, Reuters reported.

Chinese authorities are concerned that Mexico would gain unrestricted access to BYD's advanced technology and may even possibly allow the US access to it, according to the Financial Times.
