Hozon was founded in October 2014 and is headquartered in Shanghai, and the company is primarily known by the name of its subsidiary, Neta Auto (哪吒汽车).

With a focus on the mass market, Neta aims to offer affordable models, including extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.

The company qualified to produce vehicles in China in April 2017, and its plant in Tongxiang, Zhejiang province, opened in February 2018.

In July 2018, Neta's first model, the N01, rolled off the production line and was launched at the Guangzhou auto show in November of the same year. The model has now been discontinued.
