Chinese EV maker Xpeng will host a technology event on April 15 to debut and detail its next-generation flagship SUV, the GX. The event will begin at 7:00 pm Beijing time.
Built for the era of physical AI, the GX integrates Xpeng's forward-looking technologies and redefines the new tech flagship in the realms of safety, chassis, smart driving, and spatial design, the company wrote on Weibo on Monday.
The large six-seater SUV marks Xpeng's latest ambition in the premium luxury segment, with an estimated price range of 400,000 yuan ($58,530) to 500,000 yuan.
Internally codenamed G01, the SUV is built on Xpeng's new SEPA 3.0 (Smart Electric Platform Architecture 3.0) and has side-profile similarities with the Range Rover.
Continuing the company's dual-powertrain strategy, the full-size SUV model will be offered in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.
The vehicle measures 5,265 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,115 mm. Its interior space inherits the comfort DNA of the X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), according to previously released information.
Its pure electric version will offer a maximum CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) range of 750 kilometers, while the extended-range variant will provide 320 kilometers of battery-only range, according to its regulatory filings.
The EREV version will feature a 1.5-liter engine as a range extender paired with dual motors, whereas the BEV version will offer rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive options, boasting a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
The Xpeng GX is expected to be equipped with four of the company's in-house developed Turing smart-driving chips, delivering an effective computing power of 3,000 TOPS, previous local media reports suggested.
The GX is crucial for Xpeng as it further explores the high-end market. Its most expensive model currently on sale is the X9 MPV, which starts at 309,800 yuan.
The move closely follows local peer Nio, which just held a technology event for its new flagship SUV, the ES9, last week.
The Nio ES9 has already begun pre-sales with a starting price of 528,000 yuan, and its official launch is expected in late May.
