Nio Inc's sub-brand Onvo confirmed that the upcoming updated L90 will be equipped with the company's in-house developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip.

The 2026 electric SUV will officially launch at Onvo's event on April 21, marking Nio's accelerated push to penetrate its in-house semiconductor technology into its sub-brands.

With this transition, Nio Inc continues to shift away from Nvidia's Orin-X chips. Currently, the Nio main brand has fully adopted the in-house developed Shenji NX9031 autonomous driving chip across its entire lineup.

Onvo confirmed the decision in a WeChat post on Saturday. A local media outlet first reported the move earlier this week.

The Shenji NX9031 is the industry's first ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) chip manufactured using a 5-nanometer automotive-grade process, with both the chip and underlying software designed in-house, Onvo said.

The chip features over 50 billion transistors and possesses the industry's strongest automotive-grade SoC inference computing power. To date, it has provided a smooth intelligent experience for over 200,000 users, according to the WeChat post.

The Shenji NX9031 also features an industry-leading ultra-high memory bandwidth of 546 GB/s, making it a chip truly born for inference large models, with double the bandwidth of the latest industry flagships, Onvo said.

The 2026 Onvo L90 will also feature the Nio World Model (NWM) for the first time, which is China's first multivariate autoregressive generative embodied driving model for autonomous driving, the brand said.

The model can fully understand data and possesses long-term sequential deduction and decision-making capabilities. It will comprehensively enhance driving, parking, and active safety experiences, Onvo said.

Nio delivered the technical architecture of "world model plus closed-loop reinforcement learning" in February, and the new version of NWM will be delivered along with the 2026 L90, Onvo said.

The 2026 L90 will also add a flagship autonomous driving version equipped with LiDAR, which will be sold alongside the L90 using a pure-vision autonomous driving solution.

The currently available L90 is priced between 265,800 yuan ($38,930) and 299,800 yuan.

Onvo's head of product Eric Yu previously said that the cost of the updated L90 has increased by about 10,000 yuan due to rising prices of components such as high-performance memory.

Nio delivered 35,486 vehicles in March, representing a 136% year-on-year increase, pushing its first-quarter total past the company's guidance.
